The Boat Lullabies (A Subsidiary of Square America)

I picked this up over the weekend- anyone have any idea where this might be from? It’s a real photo postcard and given the AZO logo I can tell it dates from somewhere between 1904 and 1918. I’m guessing it’s WWI- you can see what looks to be a US flag and it looks like the darker uniforms might be US Navy.

“Mother’s Day 5/10/70″

The typewriter drawing and the letter of apology that accompanied it date from 1934 and were from a batch of letters sent from Bob, who was working in Michigan, to Hazel, who was living on the far south-side of Chicago. I’d also like to apologize to everyone for being so lax in posting here- from here on out I’m going to try to treat you halfway like the wonderful readers you are. That said there should be a major seismic shift over at Square America in the next month or so- lots of new stuff plus a major facelift for a lot of the older shows- so I may miss a day or two here and there but I promise you it’s going to be worth it so stay tuned!

Okay, I’ve watched this three times now and I’m convinced youtube was invented entirely to deliver unto me this most transcendent musical moment on the eve of the resurrection so that I might mend my ways and return to the flock and start spreading the good news. Now every time I pass a water tower I’ll wonder if there’s some earnest soul in there, lit only by a flashlight, playing songs from the Bee Gees first album. It truly is a wonderful world in which we live.
